TMJ / Migraine

Is Botox a fit for you?

MIGRAINE TREATMENT

Temporomandibular Joint connects lower jaw with upper skull, and is used for chewing. Sometimes due to injury or frequent use such as grinding joint problems can occur. This is classified as Temporomandibular Disorder (TMD). TMD symptoms can range from pain during chewing to jaw sticking or locking or just a clicking sound during chewing. Stress and medications can trigger clenching and grinding creating constant pressure on fragile ligament putting strain on temporal, frontal and occipital zones.

Cheek muscles such as massater and temporalis can involuntarily contract creating tension and pain as well as migraines. When Botox is injected into these areas it paralyzes these overused muscles, eliminating involuntary contractions in the jaw. In short amount of time it can relieve the tension and pain. Botox lasts only 3 months and is released continuously with just chewing.
